Most people, when asked what their favourite time of year is, would say Christmas – especially if they have kids. I had an interesting conversation with my 10 year old daughter just last night about the Christmas season. She said she loves this time of year because of the gifts, the cookies, the parties and the music. And I laughed and said, I love those things too, but at the same time, they were also stressful for me! Finding time to bake the cookies, shop for and wrap the gifts, hosting parties (cleaning the house!) but at least the music doesn’t cause any stress! It’s interesting to see the exact same things from two very different perspectives. Perhaps as adults we need to take a deep breath, and take a few moments to enjoy more and stress less. Does the house HAVE to be spotless to host? likely not seeing as the people coming are generally friends coming to have a good time. Do you have to make every single kind of cookie? or can you get together with girlfriends to do a cookie exchange? There are many ways we can take the stress out of Christmas and learn to enjoy it more with a child-like anticipation and joy. To remember that being with family and friends is what makes the season bright.
